The Perks of Marriage
The reality is that marriage can be hard. Sometimes the difficult things become all we can see or think about. This post is meant to help you think of the many, small, and sometimes funny things we gain when we’re married. I call them the perks of marriage.
Take a look, reminding yourself of the perks of being married.
Someone who touches the small of your back whether randomly or intentionally.
Someone to zip you up (or unzip you).Someone to share your burdens and heartache with.
Someone to buckle your shoes (yes this happened after my hand was in a sling).
Someone to carry your coat.
Someone who cleans out the car (or does a chore you find unpleasant).
Someone to kill the bugs and spiders.
Someone to rescue you or give you a ride when you need one.
Someone to lift you up and remind you everything will be okay.
Someone to reach those hard to reach shelves in your kitchen or your closet.
Someone who will stop what they are doing to bring you something that was within reach but you didn’t want to move.
Someone to swap reading glasses with (the time will come!).
Someone who understands what you’re thinking without saying a word.
Someone to share inside jokes with.
Someone to give and receive random compliments.
Someone you’re able to vulnerable with.
Someone to open the door.
Someone to hook your bra (or unhook your bra).
Someone to challenge you and grow in patience.
Someone who checks to see that all is safe before you enter unfamiliar territory.
Someone who turns off the lights.
Someone who makes you think differently.
Someone to make decisions with.
The biggest perk? Support. Someone to support your crazy dreams and harebrained schemes.
We sure might drive our husband’s crazy (or vice versa), but it keeps life exciting. The two of you are in this thing called life together, and having each other makes the journey rich.
What would you add to this list?
Wife Step: What perk of marriage are you most thankful for? Tell your husband what it is. Marriage is hard but fun. Itemize the little things and enjoy the ride.
