Five Prayers to Pray For Your Husband
I have taken so much for granted, and when an issue has arised, I haven’t always brought these concerns to God in prayer. Instead, I’ve tried to fix things on my own, or I’ve brought situations to other people wanting their thoughts or help. While this isn’t wrong, it isn’t the best.
Bringing everything to God in prayer is our opportunity to build relationship with the Father. Praying builds trust and deepens our dependence on God. I believe that the opportunity to pray––to cover our families in prayer and engage in spiritual warfare against the enemy ––is an area we can all grow in. Specifically, we can all begin to bring our husband’s to God in prayer.
This week, my commitment is to pray specific things over my husband each day of the week. My hope is that you would join me in this endeavor, and in so doing, begin building an intentional habit of praying for our husbands.
Day 1: Praying over his mind.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Philippians 4:8 (NIV)
Father, thank you for blessing my husband with a mind that can serve you. Grant him clarity of thought today, that his thoughts would be honorable to You. Give him discernment as he faces all manner of decisions and stressors. Calm any anxious thoughts, and keep him in Your perfect peace. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
Day 2: Praying over his body.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
2 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV)
Father, thank you for bodies that are able to serve you and do the work you have called us to do. I pray today over my husband’s body, that it would be a vessel of service for Your kingdom. Grant him strength and health today. If there is sickness in his body, I pray it would come under submission to the name of Jesus. Lord, from the top of his head to the tips of his toes, would you align the cells and organs to function as you have designed them. Lord, I pray anything the enemy would seek to harm my husband’s body with would not prosper. Keep him from addiction, illness or disease, so my husband might serve you faithfully and care for his body well. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray, amen.
Day 3: Praying for spiritual growth.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)
Lord, thank you for the opportunity to learn from You and grow in understanding of You. I pray today that you would ignite within my husband a hunger to know you more. That he would have a heart to pursue you. Give him wisdom as he seeks you, and draw his heart to you. In the name of Jesus I ask, amen.
Day 4: Praying over his work.
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
Psalm 90:17 (NIV)
Lord, you have created mankind to work, even before the fall of man. So today, as my husband goes off to work, or puts his hand to work on any project, I pray for favor and blessing upon my husband and the work he does. Would you guide him and direct his steps? Give him a clear focus on what he needs to do. Lord, would he commit the work of his hands to your kingdom service. If you would have him change, alter or move into another direction for work, Lord, give him a clear and mighty word from you. Help my husband to find purpose and passion in the work in front of him and help him to be faithful in all he does. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
Day 5: Praying for his emotions.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
Father, emotions can be so challenging for men, whether they confront them, run from them or hide them. Lord, I pray today for my husband’s emotions. Whatever is stirring in his spirit, be it anxiousness, fear, hesitancy, anger, regret, etc., would you remove all emotions that are unhealthy and fill them instead with the fruits of the Spirit. Where there is anxiety, Lord bring peace. Where my husband feels fear, would You increase his faith. Where he is weak in an area, would You help him to grow in Your power and strength, Lord. I pray today that the Spirit of Truth would empower my husband to walk in the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. In the name of Jesus, I pray, amen.
