3 Steps to Avoid Frustration With Your Husband

Have you ever had moments where you felt like the responsibility rests mostly on you? The housework? The scheduling? The groceries? The endless tasks?

Perhaps at times you feel resentment towards your husband because you feel as if he isn’t contributing enough. I am so guilty of this.

So often we, as wives, get so bogged down with our “to-do” list and all the obligations that come with being a wife and a mother that we only see what we are accomplishing.

Even if you ‘do’ more than your husband, how can you avoid being frustrated with him?

  1. Notice and appreciate what your husband is doing.

  1. Remind yourself of these things.

  1. Thank God for your husband.

This is what I do when frustration rises within:

I remind myself that every morning this sweet man brings me my coffee.  It always tastes best when he makes it. He says it is because he puts an extra spoonful of love in it.  He pours that coffee in my cup and sets it down on the table next to me and says, “Good Morning Beautiful.”  That is exactly what my cup says, and he makes a point to say it out loud each time. It is such a small gesture, but it speaks volumes to me about the depth of his love and devotion to me.

When I fail to make an effort to notice and appreciate all the qualities my husband possesses, the negative flood my mind instead.

Fight to keep your mind focused on the many aspects of your husband that go easily forgotten. Fight to keep your thoughts on the good qualities of your husband. Speak your thanks outloud to your husband and to the Lord as a way to keep your mind stationed there. Thank you, Lord, for the sweet, precious, and priceless gift of my husband! I am blessed!

Take the time to appreciate your man, to acknowledge his goodness and those special qualities God chose just for him.  Focus on his goodness and store those thoughts in your heart for the times of frustration. And when those times come, pull those thoughts from your heart and remind yourself of just how blessed you are.

Wife Step: Pull out a post it note and write down three qualities of your husband you admire. Place that sticky note where you and your husband both can see it!

Why do you think it is so difficult to appreciate our husbands rather than hold them to what we think should be done and how we think things should be done? How can we get rid of the housework ‘score card’ in marriage?
