A New Marriage Begins Here

Have you ever wondered if reading your Bible actually matters?

“With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:10-11

“Honey, what does this mean? I don’t get it!”

This basically sums up my Bible study time my first few years of marriage. I leaned on my husband for my biblical knowledge. That was until the day I quit.

I don’t just mean that I quit something simple, I quit trying to read and understand God’s Word. It felt too hard, and I didn’t feel smart enough to understand what I was reading. So, I put my Bible on the shelf and there is stayed. Every time I walked past it, I was reminded that I wasn’t enough.

There came a point in my marriage and in motherhood when I had the same feeling every time I looked at the people in my life; I am not enough. I felt as if I was failing at every turn. The truth however, is that I hadn’t yet learned this profound truth; I felt like I was lacking because I had quit seeking God in His Word.

Just like my marriage, my self only as strong as the communication within it. If my husband and I never spoke to one another, we would have no relationship. It works the same with the Father. Without communication, there is no  relationship.

Opening the Bible is how we hear from God, and when we are connected to the Word of God, we learn who we are supposed to be and the way in which God wants us to live.

It may be that you don’t have a Bible. If so, let us know so we can send you one!

It may be that you’ve never read your Bible.

It may be that you used to, but somewhere along the way, you quit.

Let me encourage you–the sooner you get into God’s word, the sooner you’ll see transformation in your heart, your life, your marriage, and your family.

Being deeply rooted in the Word and learning the truth of who are enables us to more deeply connect with the people in our lives–especially our husbands.

Deep, meaningful connection in marriage happens when we are connected to God first.

That dusty Bible on my shelf that stared back at me all that time was the key to unlocking a new level of intimacy and connection within my marriage.

The Word of God is magnificently powerful. When we open its pages and learn who God intends for us to be, then we in turn become the wives God has called us to be.

One of the best lessons I ever brought into my marriage was taken directly from the pages of Scripture. When I removed my husband from the place of an idol in my life, and when I purposefully connected with the Word of God, then I found a beautiful connection within my marriage. I first needed to learn that there is only room for one number one in my heart, and that place belongs to God alone.

Maybe you struggle to get into God’s Word like I did, or maybe you quit and placed your Bible on the shelf. Let me help you open it again my friend. Maybe you struggle with making God number one in your heart, let the truth of His Word wash over you today.
