How You Can Move Past Feeling Forgotten
My husband’s wedding ring seemed to be missing – again. Not the first time this year, but the second time, his wedding band was MIA. We are wedded, yet I was deeply wounded that it was lost…again. A gulf emerged, separating the two of us. The lost wedding ring took with it my feelings.
Anger, hurt, and dismay warred within me. He remembers his watch, yet forgets ME echoed in my head. All I wanted was for it to just show up so I would no longer feel forgettable.
Have you dealt with similar thoughts and feelings?
In situations when high emotions are at play, we have a decision to make. Will be be overcome by our emotions or will we walk in wisdom?
Emotionally rocked is a position of defense where we wind up hurling hurtful words that divide relationships.
Walking in wisdom is a position of guard where we line up beside our husbands, raising hands and praising God for His faithfulness even though we feel the way we feel.
We want to be wives who decide to walk in wisdom.
How do we choose wisdom when we feel forgotten?
Just show up, and pray for wisdom! Ask the Lord to give you wisdom and he will give it to you (James 1:5).
This is what I did – I showed up by asking God to make the ring show up!
Soon my husband pounded on my door, something he seldom does when I pray. He just showed up at the door, raised his hand, revealing his ring, restored to its rightful place!
Praise God! Only You, God, place that which is lost right in front of us – when we just show up in prayer and praise, trusting You to rise up when we need You.
Wife Step: Take two minutes after reading this and ask God for wisdom in any area of insecurity in your life. Ask God to see it from His perspective and not from yours. Ask God to give you confidence in your identity in Christ alone and in nothing else. Plead with God for a renewed confidence that although we feel forgotten here on earth, that you have all you need in the name of Jesus.
Why is it difficult to remember that God has never forgotten us?
